Opening of the exhibition 'Akhyan masks, scrolls and Indian puppets'

The exhibition opens on Saturday, October 18

This exhibition is the result of the good relations between the Centre of Initiatives of Tolosa and Indian institutions, in this case the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts in New Delhi, with which we organized in Titirijai2004 the 'Window to Indian Puppetry '. Later in the 2008 we brought to the Mathi Ghar of Delhi (IGNCA Exhibition Hall), together with the SEACEX, the exhibition 'Window to the Iberian Puppet'.

This exhibition is oriented to the puppetry culture not as an artistic object, but as a general cultural manifestation of the oral and intangible heritage of a country. Several puppets forms are already protected by UNESCO.

Akhyan means narrative. The Akhyan exhibition explores and celebrates these narrative traditions of India that tell a story through the use of objects that talk, like masks, puppets and scrolls. In these three forms, the relationship between the narrator and the speaking object is a specific type. Here concealment and revelation go hand in hand, creating a world of meanings and interactions with its own set of logic and patterns.
