Engruna Teatre presents the play ‘La Muñeca Pelona’, at Topic

The Catalan company tackles the theme of ‘tolerance’ in a play aimed at children from three to eight

This Saturday Engruna Teatre brings ‘La Muñeca Pelona’ to the stage at Topic, a fifty minute long play aimed at children from three to eight and at a family audience in general. A play in which, according to the members of the company, we can find “the interaction between very different artistic languages, like puppetry, music, theatre…, and values such as tolerance and acceptance of the differences between people”.

The main character lives in a cart full of junk. The doll feels different to the others because she’s bald and this will start her on a journey to look for hair for her bald head. During the journey she will meet very different characters, like Gigante, Caracol Col Col, Luna Lunera, Sol Solecito or Tom Thumb. “They will all show her that the most important thing is to accept ourselves the way we are” explain Ruth García and Mireia Fernández, founder members of the company and actresses in the play.

The stage is occupied by an old wooden cart full of junk. “As the story continues, the cart shows hidden objects and puppets at the time as offering a way for our protagonist to go through”. The show contains a “very innovative performance idea, with a tremendous display of imagination, including recycling and manipulation of objects; the audience is transported into a world of great audiovisual impact through the beauty of images and music”.

Engruna Teatre was born in 2006 out of the desire of two actresses, Ruth and Mireia, to create their own performing language. “We looked for a sensory, visual world, based on fairytales or creation stories, with the aim of attracting the audience through a didactic and, why not say, poetic theatre, with the help of techniques such as shadow play, projection, object theatre, puppet theatre and the music.”

They also seek to construct “a magic world to stimulate the imagination of the family audience, from the youngest to the oldest. Because we cannot and we don’t want to forget that those who fall in love with the theatre at an early age, will love it for the rest of their lives”.
