‘Pequeños deseos’ (‘Little wishes’) by Teatro Plus

The Asturias based company will be offering an adapted version of Andersen’s fairy tale ‘The little match-seller’ on the 30th of December

“It was terribly cold and nearly dark on the last evening of the old year, and the snow was falling fast. In the cold and the darkness, a poor little girl, with bare head and naked feet, roamed through the streets.”

Andersen, the literary genius, left us this magnificent treasure to be discovered 165 years later, which is when the fairy tale known as ‘The Little match-seller’ was first published. Illustrator of his own reality, he could surely never have imagined that in the XXI century, the century of great technological advance, his story would be as up to date as it was in 1846.
Even now, like then, poverty dictates that many children work. They are deprived of their only and basic right, the right to be a child. “She had drawn her little feet under her, but she could not keep off the cold; and she dared not go home, for she had sold no matches, and could not take home even a penny of money. Her father would certainly beat her”.

‘Little wishes’, is a demonstration against the injustice against children all over the world. Appropriate age: all audiences.
