The Topic continues forward with its networking policy with other cultural and artistic programs. In this occasion it collaborates with the San Sebastian Film Festival, held in the capital city of Gipuzkoa from the 16th until the 24th of September. As a result of this relation between the International Film Festival and the Tolosa Puppets International Centre, a film will be screened at Topic as well as a display of traditional Chinese shadow puppet display will be exhibited.
At the Topic’s theatre hall on Tuesday the 20th the film ‘Unknown Pleasures’ (pictured) and the short film ‘In public’ can be shown, both are included within the season named ‘Digital shadows: last generation Chinese cinema’. The entry ticket is free of charge until the capacity is filled.
Also during the Zinemaldia, one of the Topic’s most attractive area, the shadows’ corridor, is going to change its look. It will be entirely dedicated to Chinese shadows, in complicity with the cinematographic season. The visitor will be able to admire a well-preserved selection of Chinese shadows that belong to the Topic and are exhibited expressly for this occasion and very hard to contemplate them outside the Asian country.

‘Unknown pleasures’ (synopsis)
Jia Zhangke films Datong's post-industrial wasteland to frame the various ways a trio of disaffected youths are “at odds” with their surroundings. Best friends Bin Bin and Xiao Ji have girl problems and wander aimlessly on their bikes, until they eventually meet Qiao Qiao, a model/singer only two steps from prostitution.
'In Public' (synopsis)
This short documentary - which became the inspiration for Unknown Pleasures - is made up of 30 single-sequence shots filmed over a period of 45 days in which we can see anonymous passers-by, travellers, railroad and bus workers in and around the small mining town of Datong, in Shanxi Province.
