Miguel Arreche receives in Mexico the Rosete Aranda Award

The co-director of the Tolosa Puppets Festival and of the Topic collected yesterday the award in the city of Huamantla.
It was awarded last 27th of July, within the XXVI International Puppet Festival in the Tlaxcala State. This puppet festival is the most important in this country of Central America and the whole Latin America. Each year the festival, which in this occasion it is held from the 10th until the 31st of July, recognises an outstanding individual in the promotion and diffusion of puppet theatre. For the first time the award has been granted to a person from outside America.
The award receives its name in remembrance of the ‘Compañía de Autómatas Hermanos Rosete Aranda’, which was a true enterprise that kept working for a hundred years. They are considered the pioneers of an aesthetic, plastic, modeling and design form of puppets, elements that now are a legacy of puppet theatre.
Miguel Arreche, who received the award from the Governor of Tlaxcala, said in the ceremony that this award touched him very deeply and recalled that “since 1997, when I saw for the first time the National Museum of Puppets (Munati), it has been a love relation with the festival and with the Museum that culminates now with this award that truly honours me”. According to Arreche, the city of Huamantla “it has become in a world reference of the art of puppets. The Munati is a unique museum in Latin America with these characteristics and the festival has become the most important one related to puppets in this part of the world. When we talk about puppets in Latin America necessarily we must refer to Huamantla”.
Arreche wanted to share the award with his colleagues in Tolosa, especially with his family and with Idoya Otegui, Director along with him of Titirijai and the Topic. While still two years have not passed from the opening of the Tolosa Puppets International Centre, Arreche recalled in his speech that “all the important things of the world were born little navigating towards greatness, not without difficulties, thanks to human teams that worked and still work with tenacity, determination, passion and hard work”.
