The Cuban company Teatro de las Estaciones suggests a different approach to Pinocchio on the 28th of May at Topic.

“It is the puppeteer’s tale par excellence”, say the members of the company from Matanzas.
“Pinocchio/Wooden Heart” is a modern fable about the famous doll made with fine Italian wood. His father, who is the last carpenter in the world since this trade is falling into disuse, is willing in converting the doll into a living child. Between songs, dances, the day to day circumstances, the understandings and misunderstandings with the rest of the characters, the puppet must choose to either or not become a true child.
The Cuban company Teatro de las Estaciones has dreamed for a long time to take once again this tale into stage, “the classic of all puppeteers, the puppeteer tale par excellence”, say from the American group. His main character is simply an animated doll and the world of theatre seems to be all for himself. Norge Espinosa is the author of this version from Carlo Collodi’s original one.
“Our Pinocchio - explain the responsible of Teatro de las Estaciones - is the same as Collodi’s and the one who, during the nearly century and a half of adventures since is very beginning, we have recognized in all those versions”. This Pinocchio speaks Italian, as his creator, but also the language of the current days. “He sings and dances, while learning what he wants, and understanding what he does not want to. Is that promised happiness the same as it is today; is it perhaps the best choice to give an end to the wooden child and become into another one, one among the rest, one among many?” The heart of Pinocchio, that the old Gepetto makes it beat in his chest, is wise and will allow him to choose, along with the spectators, and ending which even the same Carlo Collodi would suggest today.
“Pinocchio/Wooden Hear” is a production made with the support of the European Union, AECID Spain, the Spanish Embassy in Cuba, Multilateral from Huesca, and the Provincial Council for Scenic Arts of Matanzas, Cuba. With the collaboration of UNIMA Andalucia.
