‘The Earth and the Universe’, an Iranian show for adults the 26th of March in te Topic

Performed by three actresses, this staging is of a great poetic beauty

It talks us about the human being, of eternal values such as love and freedom, of the man in front of nature, the man before his gods and destiny. The performance includes seven stories.

Within these seven stories, the figure of God is very present. Tales where their protagonists, being either human beings or animals, tells us about the relation with divinity through very earthly situations in which freedom, fears or injustices become in behavioral examples.
In these stories that compose the show appear characters such as a musician who spent all his life playing for the people, but once he reached the old age he was left alone and became a poor man. In another story, the main character is a peacock that relinquished of his plumage because he thought that all troubles had and origin in his beauty and thus turning ugly he could protect himself from danger. In another part of the work, we will come across with a devout who keeps looking without rest for a special type of man, someone who can control his anger and lust. In all texts of Molana Masnavi, God is a reference that unites daily events with the importance of faith.

Jalal-e-Din Mohammad Molavi Rumi was born in 1207 CE in Balkh in the northeast provinces of Persia (presently Afghanistan), within a Persian speaking family. His father Baha al-Din was a well-recognized religious erudite. Under his sponsorship, Rumi received his first lessons from Syed Burham-al-Din. When he was around 18 years old, in order to prevent the Mongolian invasions, the family moved towards the west of Iran, Iraq and Syria, coming across with famous writers and mystics such as the revered poet Arrar, author of the most exquisite spiritual parable in Persian language “The Birds Contest”. The family’s journey ended in 1226 in the city of Anatolia of Konya – capital city of Rum, the Turkish sultanate of Seljuk, whence the name of the poet: Rumi. Rumi settles in, teaches and composes here until his death in1273. Despite the fact that the sultans of Konya were forced to pay taxes to the Mongolians in 1243, the city was a safe shelter for the Islamic culture, gathering privileged minds that came escaping from far horizons in a stormy period.
